For many in the Netherlands, the holidays are around the corner.
The holidays are always a good time to reflect on our (too!) busy lives. As we are trying to accomplish too many things all at once.
This week I was reading the award winning essay “On the Beauty of Distraction” by João Sevilhano.
Attention
How does attention work? How do different cultures look at attention?
“In English, we pay attention. In French, we make it. In German, we gift it. In Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian, we lend it, as though attention is something that can be used and then duly returned. In Finnish, attention is gathered or added, like a spice that seasons perception. It’s a broad linguistic trend that begs a couple of questions: Are we using this resource efficiently? Are we paying attention to what we should be?”
What are you paying attention to? The hustle? FOMO? Another great night out? The next little achievement?
Or do you want to focus on what is really important like family and friends?
Take the time to read his essay
Slow down.
Take the time now.
